Julia & Jay Versluis
Julia and Jay's medium is kinetic photography.

Inspired by cityscapes as well as artificial light sources, vivid colours are their theme. Says Jay, "I wouldn't call our images "photographs" in a traditional sense, but rather Light Paintings. We're holding a portable canvas in our hands and every light source becomes a paintbrush".

Having discovered this revolutionary new technique of capturing a moving image onto a still one, Jay and Julia have worked with it since 2003. This technique also adds the fascinating element of randomness to their work, just like in Quantum Physics. The final result, although meticulously pre-planned, remains unpredictable until it comes out.

Jay has worked as a fashion and portrait photographer but was first drawn to long exposure photography in 2002. Instantly attracted to the power of colours, he found the use of a tripod a hindrance to spontaneous imagery.

Julia and Jay had two exhibitions in 2005, in Birmingham and Central London.
